To install Distributed Generation equipment on our network for solar or wind generation you'll need to apply for a Distributed Generation connection.

We offer two types of Distributed Generation connections: 10 Kilowatts or less, and over 10 Kilowatts.

Please be aware there is an application fee for a Distributed Generation connection.

Small Scale Distributed Generation Policy

From 23 February 2015 provided your application conforms to Part 1A of the Regulations you may apply under the Small Scale Distributed Generation (SSDG) Policy.

If you have read the above policy documents and you wish to apply to have distributed generation with a capacity of 10 kilowatts or less connected to Horizon Energy’s network, please complete our application form. Send or email it to us at deDistributedGeneration@Horizonnetworks.nz together with the application fee and all of the information and supporting documentation specified in the application form.

We will follow the process and timelines set out in the Horizon Energy Distributed Generation (<10kW) Policy in considering and responding to your application.

Distributed generation with capacity of 10 kilowatts or more

The following connection and operation standards outline the process and requirements for installing distributed generation with capacity of above 10 kilowatts on Horizon Energy’s network.   In all cases Horizon Energy encourages you to contact us as soon as possible so that we can assist you in complying with the requirements for connection.

If you have read the above policy documents and you wish to make an initial application to have distributed generation with a capacity of above 10 kilowatts connected to Horizon Energy’s network, please complete the initial application form.  Send it to us or email at deDistributedGeneration@Horizonnetworks.nztogether with the application fee and all of the information and supporting documentation specified in the initial application form.

We will follow the process and timelines set out in the Horizon Energy Distributed Generation (>10kW) Policy in considering and responding to your initial application. You must make a final application within 12 months after receipt of the information from Horizon Energy if you intend to proceed to connect to our network.
